We create socially inclusive, walkable and bikeable environments.

Who we are

We work as a network of urban planners, mobility consultants and gender experts. We are based in the Netherlands and operate worldwide. Together we speak seven languages that give us access to diverse local contexts and challenges. We connect the Netherlands with the Alpine region. And Europe with the Global South. In this role, we strive to bring about positive change: to create socially inclusive environments that encourage walking and cycling. And yes, we see the bicycle as a solution to many problems. And we don't just say that because we are enthusiastic cyclists ourselves!

What we do

The need for transformation is becoming increasingly clear around the world, because without it, global challenges cannot be overcome. Climate-friendly mobility, inclusive infrastructures and mobility services as well as a fair distribution of road space are just some of the aspects of these necessary changes. These issues are particularly close to our hearts. We are convinced that these transformations can be accelerated through the right connections: by linking disciplines, ideas, expertise and stakeholders.

What do we connect?

>> WE CONNECT DISCIPLINES
Cycling infrastructure, footpaths or beautifully designed urban spaces alone do not achieve much. They must be tailored to people's needs. Only then can they really encourage people to use them. And they must also function when the climate changes. We therefore incorporate social and environmental aspects into our work. And combine different fields of activity.
>> WE CONNECT IDEAS
By combining different ideas, concepts and approaches, we create synergies to promote innovation, find creative solutions and avoid 'blind spots'.
>> WE CONNECT THE NETHERLANDS AND THE ALPS
We have a strong connection to the Alpine region that inspires us to be part of a positive change in this region. Our knowledge of the Alpine region allows us to assess where the transfer of expertise from the Netherlands can add value.
>> WE CONNECT EUROPE WITH THE GLOBAL SOUTH
Many countries in the Global South face unique challenges that differ from those in Europe. At the same time, we are firmly convinced that mutual learning between the regions is possible. We draw on our experience in projects that we have already been able to support in the Global South.

Our services - a selection

>> STRATEGIES AND CONCEPTS FOR CYCLING AND PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC
People sense exactly which mode of transport was preferred in the planning and then behave very pragmatically accordingly. We develop strategies and concepts for cities in which active mobility is a pleasure - thus increasing the accessibility of important destinations and contributing to the quality of life!
>> INCLUSIVE INFRASTRUCTURES AND MOBILITY OFFERS
We combine data from various sources such as interviews, walk-alongs, statistical data and surveys to obtain a comprehensive picture of inequalities in the use of infrastructure and mobility services. Based on this, we develop - preferably in participatory processes - recommendations for action to improve the situation.
>> FAIRLY DISTRIBUTED STREET SPACE
We use our many years of experience in the design and moderation of dialogue processes and our expertise in mediation to contribute to the fair distribution of street space. Our aim is to achieve a balance of interests that takes all perspectives into account.
>> CAPACITY BUILDING
We are happy to pass on our knowledge - whether as speakers at conferences and meetings or in the form of training programmes. We also help to set up peer learning groups to exchange experiences and share best practices.
>> MONITORING AND EVALUATION
We develop control instruments so that the implementation of programs and projects can be reflected upon and evaluated. In this way, we link measures and impact.
>> ONGOING PLANNING PROCESSES
We contribute our expertise to ongoing planning processes, for example in the form of input or as a variant. By combining perspectives, we encourage new ways of thinking in ongoing projects.
>> INSPIRATION: EXAMPLE THE NETHERLANDS
Promoting active mobility? In the Netherlands, you can draw on the full range of possibilities. We inspire you with insights into Dutch planning practice and explore where the transfer of Dutch expertise makes sense. We are also happy to connect you with local stakeholders or support you in the preparation and implementation of excursions to the Netherlands.

A few words about the Netherlands

The Netherlands relies on integrated planning that combines various aspects such as transport infrastructure, climate adaptation and spatial planning. They focus on people and their behavior and plan infrastructure and services in such a way that people are encouraged to move around in an environmentally friendly and active way. The bicycle is seen as a fully-fledged means of transportation. Apart from highways and expressways, no road is complete that does not also offer cyclists optimal conditions. The Netherlands knows how to create privileges for the actively mobile, for example by making routes shorter for them than for car drivers. The design of infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists follows not only functional but also aesthetic criteria. In this way, it is better accepted.

A FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION: WHY NOVEMBER:CITY?Our company was founded in November. When we asked our friends about their associations with this month, we were amazed at the responses: November is perceived as a time of change, gratitude and preparation for the festive season. These positive connotations inspired us to include November in our name. With this wonderful month in our name, we are shaping the necessary transformations and building on the valuable foundations that have already been laid today. We hope that festive times will follow, figuratively speaking.
